Tom Calder commenced in June 2018 as Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner – ASEAN, a new appointment under the Queensland Trade and Investment Strategy 2017–2022.

Based in TIQ’s Singapore office, Tom is responsible for Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and other ASEAN nations in the region. He brings to the role 20 years’ experience in international trade and investment, having been an Australian trade commissioner in India and, most recently, Austrade State Director for Western Australia. Tom has also worked for the University of Melbourne as Regional Manager (Middle East and China), and was an Australian Government industry advisor.

Tom has longstanding connections in the ASEAN region, having spent his early childhood in South East Asia before returning to Queensland for high school. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Asian Studies and has undertaken language training in Indonesian.
